Cardinal Birdfeeder Card

This birthday card is for my dear friend and fellow birdwatcher. She has a bird feeder in her backyard, so I thought she would appreciate the scene I have created. I earned the Language of Friendship stamp set during Sale-a-bration, but while I was eager to work with the bird stamp, I found the eye and eye patch of the bird unrealistic and they didn’t match up with any bird that I could recognize. After playing with the stamp for a while. I realized that the eye patch could easily be omitted if I inked the stamp with a marker, leaving a great outline for any bird and adding detail that made the bird look realistic.

For the cardinal’s eye patch, I inked the bird image with black marker (omitting the eye and eye patch area). I then punched the image with the bird punch. Next, I drew in the cardinal’s eye patch freehand also with a black marker. The tuft is a wing piece that has been stamped, punched out and adhered behind the head. A little touching up with the fine tip side of the marker between the bird head and the tuft gives the head a more unified look. The bird’s eye is a pearl jewel darkened with a black Sharpie. For the sunflower seeds, I punched the branch out of white cardstock and striped the leaves with a Basic Black Marker. Then I cut the leaves off the stem. The yellow seeds, are the largest punch of the crop-a-dile.
