Hershey’s House Tutorial

Several weeks ago I was asked if I could come up with a design for a Hershey’s House. Thanks for your suggestion Susan H. I think the Hershey’s house design would make a darling house-warming or welcome gift.

The roof was easy enough to make out of kisses, but for the base I switched to Hershey’s Nuggets. I chose bright colors for these houses, because I loved the bright colors of the houses I saw on our beach vacation over Spring break. I have left the back of the house open, so that the recipient can see what the house is made of. 🙂

If you would like to make your own Hershey’s House, just follow my step-by-step instructions below. I recommend Stampin’ Up! card stock for all my Hershey’s tutorials. Its 80 lb weight is perfect for holding my designs together. For a complete supply list and link to my Stampin’ Store, please see the end of this tutorial.

Hershey’s House Tutorial

Step One

1. To make the roof, start with a 6-¾” x 1” strip of Smoky Slate card stock. On the long side, score at the 2-1/8”, 4-¼”, 6-3/8” marks.

Step Two

2. Put a piece of sticky strip on the tab end.

Step Three

3. Fold along the score lines. Remove the sticky strip liner and bring the ends together to make a triangle. Set aside.

Step Four

4. To make the first of the roof filler strips, start with a 7” x 1” strip of Coastal Cabana card stock. On the long side, score at the 1”, 2”, 3”, 4”, 5” and 6” marks.

Step Five

5. Fold the strip into triangles as shown.

Step Six

6. Place triangle-folded strip into the roof piece.

Step Seven

7. To make the second of the roof filler strips, start with a 3” x 1” strip of Coastal Cabana card stock. On the long side, score at the 1” and 2” marks.

Step Eight

8. Fold along the score lines to create a triangle.

Step Nine

9. Place the triangle into the roof piece.

Step Ten

10. Pop four Hershey’s kisses into the roof piece.

Step Eleven

11. To make the house base, start with a 6-3/8” x 1” strip of Crisp Cantaloupe card stock. On the long side, score at the 1-3/8”, 3”, 4-3/8” and 6” marks.

Step Twelve

12. Put a piece of sticky strip on the tab end.

Step Thirteen

13. Fold along the score lines. Remove the sticky strip liner and bring the ends together to make a rectangle.

Step Fourteen

14. To make the house base filler strips, cut a 7” x 1” strip of Crisp Cantaloupe card stock. On the long side, score at 1-3/8”, 1-7/8”, 3-¼”, 3-¾”, 5-1/8” and 5-5/8”.

Step Fifteen

15. Fold along the score lines as shown.

Step Sixteen

16. Place the strip inside the house base.

Step Seventeen

17. Pop three Hershey’s nuggets into the rectangular spaces.

Step Eighteen

18. Put two strips of sticky strip on the house base. Remove the sticky strip liner and attach the roof to the house base.

Step Nineteen

19. To make the front of the house, start with a 2-5/8” x 1-5/16” piece of Crisp Cantaloupe card stock. On the long side, score at the ½” and 2-1/8” marks.

Step Twenty

20. Leave the piece of card stock on the Simply Scored Scoring Board. Make a ¾” score mark at the 1-1/8” and 1-½” marks.

Step Twenty-one

21. To make the door, cut up one of the ¾” score lines and over to the other ¾” score line.

Step Twenty-two

22. Fold the side tabs of the house front. Insert the house front into the house frame.

Step Twenty-three

23. Decorate the front of the house.

Step Twenty-four

24. Decorate the roof with shingles. I used the ½” circle punch to create a layered shingle look. Layer the circles starting from bottom and layering to the top. A faster way to create the look of shingles would be to cut TWO 2-1/8” x 1” panels and run them through an embossing folder.

Step Twenty-five

25. To make a chimney, start with a 3-3/8” x 3/8” strip of card stock. On the long side, score at ¼”, 1-¼”, 1-¾”, 3-1/8”.

Step Twenty-six

26. Place a strip of stick strip, on one of the tab ends.

Step Twenty-seven

27. Fold along all the score lines. Remove the sticky strip liner and bring together to make a trapezoid. Also, place a piece of sticky strip on the angled end.

Step Twenty-eight

28. Remove the sticky strip liner and adhere to the roof.
