Coach Gifts 2

My son had another great season of cross country. He bettered his personal best from last year by over one minute and more importantly he participated in a sport that is keeping him healthy and active. Part of the reason my son loves cross country is because of his amazing coaches. They train him, but they also make cross country fun, which is so important for middle schoolers.

This year I wanted to do something different to thank the coaches. Last year I created a running singlet card. This year, I decided to design running shorts. This card fits in a standard A2 (medium) envelope. All supplies for this card are available in my STAMPIN’ UP! STORE. For a complete supply list scroll to the end of this tutorial or click HERE.

Running Shorts Card Tutorial

Step One Template

1. To make this card easier to create, we will be making a template in steps 1-2. Start with a 5-½” x 4-¼” piece of cardstock. On the long side that is furthest away from you, make a pencil mark ¾” in on both sides. On the long side that is closest to you make a pencil mark at the 2-¼” and 3-¼” marks. Also on the closest side, make a pencil mark at the 2-¾” mark, 1” from the edge. Draw pencil lines connecting the marks as shown.

Step Two Template

2. Cut along the pencil lines.

Step Three

3. Start with an 8-½” x 5-½” piece of card stock. On the long side, score at the 4-¼” mark.

Step Four

4. Fold the card stock in half along the score line. Use the template to trace pencil lines onto the card base. Note: The template should be oriented so that the top of the shorts is laid against the fold.

Step Five

5. Cut out the card along the pencil lines.

Step Six

6. Run the top of the shorts through the Big Shot with the Woodgrain Embossing folder to create the illusion of the elastic pleating that running shorts have. Note: I placed the top of my shorts about 1” in.

Step Seven

7. To finish off the shorts, I used a sponge dauber and Midnight Muse ink to sponge along the elastic pleating to give it more depth. To create the logo, I photographed the logo off of my son’s shorts, printed it out at a smaller size and then cut it out. Another way to do this is to find your school’s logo online and print it out.

Step Eight

8. To make the gift card envelope, I used the new and amazing envelope punch board. I followed the instructions for the 2-½ x 3-½” size. I also stamped an arrow and “thank you, you’re the best” from the “Hello, Lovely” stamp set. The arrow holds down the flap of the envelope.
