Friday Finds: Scallops Embossing Folder

Friday Finds: Where I scour the Internet in search of cool designs

Check out this cool heart-shaped card we made at my Sweet Valentines Class. It’s hard to believe, but this card has no stamping on it. It’s all made from die cut shapes. The Pool Party heart opens, to reveal a space to write your message. The Scallops Embossing Folder adds the perfect texture to match the scallops on the outer heart. This card is “lovey” enough to give to your sweetheart, but “trendy” enough to give to a friend. Find out how to make it and where to get your supplies below.

Check back this weekend, when I’ll show you how to make a square envelope with a cool liner to fit this irregularly-shaped card.

Heart Shaped Card

To create the center heart, start with an 8-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ piece of Pool Party Card Stock. On the 8-1/2″ side, score at the 4-1/4″ mark. Fold the card stock in half along the score line.

Use the second largest heart (from the Hearts Collection Framelits) to cut out a folded heart. Make sure that the fold is at the top of the heart, slightly inside of the heart frame. If you look closely, you can see a small gap inside the heart where my fold will not be cut (click on the photo to enlarge).

Next run the folded heart through the Big Shot with the Scallops Embossing Folder. The folder will emboss through both layers of the card stock.

To cut the banner layer, start with a 4″ x 1″ piece of Crumb Cake Card Stock. Use the 3rd largest heart to cut out this strip 1-1/2″ up from the point of the heart on both sides. If you look closely you can see where I made some little Sharpie marks to line up my piece. Sharpie ink can be removed from the framelit with rubbing alcohol afterwards.

Here are all the pieces you’ll need to make the heart:

  • Real Red Scallop Heart (largest heart from Hearts Collection Framelits)
  • The Pool Party Folded Heart (I showed you how to make above)
  • Fresh Prints Paper Heart (3rd largest from Hearts Collection Framelits)
  • Whisper White Paper Heart (3rd largest from Hearts Collection Framelits)
  • Two Soft Suede Arrows (from the Label Card Thinlits)
  • Red Glimmer “i Heart u” (from the Label Card Thinlits)
  • Crumb Cake Banner (I showed you how to make above)
  • 12″ length of Pool Party Seam Binding (now shown)

When assembling the card make sure you adhere the arrows first. Then use the photo of my finished card to assist you in what order the remaining layers should be adhered.
