Friday Finds: Daffodils in Bloom

Friday Finds, where I find inspiration in the world around me

There’s a grove of daffodils that appears every year along the lakeside path I walk each day. They are late bloomers this year. The earliest I’ve ever seen them is end of January. The average is around Valentine’s Day. This year they didn’t deign to burst into bloom until March and I don’t blame them… it’s been a cold winter. I guess that makes me love the sight of them even more this Spring and it has given me inspiration for this week’s Friday Finds.

I designed the daffodil on this card so that it could be mailed flat, but the scored trumpet and fluff of grosgrain stamen make it look dimensional. The Watercolor Wonder note cards provide the perfect and quick background for the daffodil. I finished the card off with a pewter embossed greeting. Keep scrolling down to learn how to make my daffodil. Find out the supplies you’ll need to make this pretty card and where to get them HERE!

It’s fun to be inspired, but it’s even more fun to share. WANT TO JOIN ME???? Just post a link to your daffodil inspired card in my comments below and I’ll come see your design. Don’t have a place to post your cards yet? No worries. Just sign up for a free account at splitcoaststampers.com and post your photo in the gallery there. So break out your daffodil stamps, make a yellow and green card or just use the daffodil photo as your starting point and let your creativity flow. Happy Stamping!

Daffodil Tutorial

Step One

1. Stamp the daffodil shaped flower from the Secret Garden stamp set in Daffodil Delight Ink on Daffodil Delight Card stock.

Step Two

2. Run the flower through the Big Shot with the matching flower die from the Secret Garden Framelits. Alternately, you could cut out the flower with scissors.

Step Three

3. This is what the flower looks like, once it’s cut out.

Step Four

4. Punch a scallop circle out of Crushed Curry Card Stock using the 7/8″ Scallop Circle Punch.

Step Five

5. Using the Simply Scored Scoring Board, score the scallop circle from indent to opposite indent all the way around. Note: I darken my 6″ score groove of my Simply Scored with a black Sharpie so that I can line up my projects more easily.

Step Six

6. Pierce the center of the scallop circle piece.

Step Seven

7. I pierced near the center of the scallop circle piece a few more times to widen the hole a little, so that I could fit the grosgrain ribbon through the hole in step nine.

Step Eight

8. Cut a 1″ length of Daffodil Delight Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon. Unravel the ribbon about halfway down. Trim the pulled thread so that it matches the length of the other threads.

Step Nine

9. Feed the ribbon through the hole in the scallop circle.

Step Ten

10. Trim the grosgrain end on the back side of the flower.

Step Eleven

11. Place a Dimensional on the back side of the flower.

Step Twelve

12. Adhere the trumpet of the flower to the flower base.

Step Thirteen

13. Cut ONE 1/8″ x 3-1/2″ stem and TWO 3/8″ x 2-1/2″ leaves.

Step Fourteen

14. Taper cut the two leaves.

Step Fifteen

15. Adhere the daffodil pieces to a Watercolor Wonder Designer Note Card. I also embossed “Birthday Wishes” from the Four You stamp set with Pewter Embossing Powder on the corner of the card. You may also want to trim the grosgrain threads at this point.
